New Year’s Eve (really)

As I was looking through the photo directory on my media server the other day, I realized that I had never uploaded the photos taken on New Year’s Eve at Drew and Erin’s house.  So, only five months late, here are the photos.  It’s always good to start off a new year with good friends.

Lake Tahoe

Lake TahoeYesterday, with all the ski areas in the region now closed for the season, Matt, Brooke, and I drove the 72 mile loop around Lake Tahoe.  Wow.  What a remarkable drive.  It was a scenic drive, and there were a few white knuckle parts as well.  In one area, after several hairpin turns, the road crossed a ridge, with a dropoff of several thousand feet on either side.  Matt and I took some great photos of the lake.

Brooke left for the airport early this morning.  Matt and I will be leaving in about 45 minutes.  I took some video which I will post when I get home.

Squaw Valley

Squaw ValleyMatt, Brooke, and I drove up to Squaw Valley from San Francisco yesterday.  We skied today, on Squaw’s last day of the season.  It was sunny and warm, and a nice way to cap off the season.  It was a great day, but tiring.  For our last run, we hiked up a ridge line, and ended up having to do a bit of exploration to find a way down that didn’t involve falling off of any cliffs.  We’re probably going to do some mountain biking tomorrow.  I posted some photos from the day.

Phils/Giants in San Francisco

Brooke and Jamie with CSN's Tom McCarthyMatt, Brooke, and I are in San Francisco right now.  Last night, we went to see the Phillies play the Giants.  The Phils won, in a really great game.  Also, Phillies’ announcer Tom McCarthy was sitting near us at the start of the game, and during one of his bits on live TV we were on television.  Here is a photo that we took, of Brooke and I with Tom.  He was a really nice, down-to-earth guy, who chatted with us a good bit about the Phillies and baseball.  I have more photos to post once we get somewhere with high speed internet that doesn’t cost $12.95 a day.  UPDATE: Photos posted.

The meeting of the families

This weekend, our parents got together here in York.  We had a great time.  Elizabeth made an awesome dinner on Saturday night.  We also went by Box Hill Mansion, where we will be getting married on September 7.  On Sunday, Elizabeth took on her dad in Wii tennis, Wii boxing, and Wii bowling.  Here’s a video (or a high-def version is here):

There’s an additional video of our Saturday get-together on the family video page.

Box Hill Mansion

I’ve also added new photos of Box Hill mansion taken by Dad Ellis to the previous photos that we took about a month ago.  Both sets are together here.

Stratton

Mom and Dad at the summitThis year, we (Mom, Dad, and I) trekked up to Stratton, VT, for a ski trip. Elizabeth stayed at home, unfortunately, as she was busy working at her new job. We had a mixed bag of weather – some fresh snow when we arrived, some sun, some rain, and some freezing rain. It was great, regardless, to finally get in a nice chunk of skiing. We stayed in the same condo we had used last year, as it was very near the lifts.

Christmas 2007 – the Year of the Big Question

Christmas 2007 (2).jpgNext up are several pictures from around Christmas- both at home leading up to Christmas, and from Christmas day itself. The big news, on a personal level, was that on December 23 I asked Elizabeth to marry me, and for some reason I’ll never understand but forever appreciate, she said yes. Stockings are her favorite part of Christmas, and we did our stockings on December 23, our last night at home before heading to my parents. I put the ring (well, actually the stone on a temporary setting – she will pick out her own setting) in the bottom of her stocking, and she was very surprised when she opened it. I think I had her convinced that this wouldn’t happen until late January or early February, when several of her work trips ended. So, now we get to plan a wedding, and a life together. Christmas was great, too. As with most years, we went to church on Christmas Eve, and then spent Christmas morning opening presents (including an autographed baseball by Mike Schmidt!), followed by a huge breakfast. Then, my aunts, uncles, and cousins on my Mom’s side of the family come over. We also got to go visit my Nana. All in all, a Christmas to remember.

Christmas 2007 (18).jpg And for the trifecta, Elizabeth after opening her Nintendo Wii. Yes, I like video games, but this was actually on her list this year.

More Walter and Milo

Random Walter and Milo (55).jpgElizabeth could have a full time job taking and watching photos and video of Walter and Milo. I’ve uploaded a bunch more photos that she took of them.

Thanksgiving 2007

Thanksgiving 2007 (16).jpgNow that the holidays have settled down, it is time to get all the photos uploaded. First up are Thanksgiving photos. Elizabeth and I spent Thanksgiving with her Mom, stepdad Mel, sister Meredith, and brother-in-law Aaron in Greenville, South Carolina. Due to traffic and a road closure from an accident, our 8-9 hour drive turned into 14 hours, but it was well worth it. We had a nice, relaxing stay, and it was nice to spend time with Elizabeth’s family.  We also got to see My Fair Lady, which asked the question we all ask- “Why can’t a woman be more like a man?”  That was also my first time in that part of South Carolina, and I really liked the area.

CALIFORNIA

Brooke and MelissaI’m getting caught up on uploading some photos.  First up are photos from a trip that Elizabeth and I took to see Brooke and Melissa in California at the end of September.  It was a great trip.  We visited the ocean, went hiking and biking, visited Laguna Beach, and huddled around a computer to see the Phils clinch the NL East title- all in one extended weekend!
